Taiwan jobless rate rises to 3.95%

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan’s unemployment rate rose to 3.95 percent in June from 3.84 percent in May as the number of first-time job-seekers increased, the government said Tuesday.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, Taiwan’s jobless rate was 3.88 percent in June, almost flat from 3.89 percent in May, said the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.

In June, the number of first-time job-seekers increased by 15,000 from the previous month. The number of people who quit their jobs rose by 2,000.

The overall number of unemployed increased 12,000 from the previous month to 428,000.

Some 10.41 million people were employed in Taiwan in June, up 1,000 from May, the directorate said.
