Delta Air Lines posts net profit of US$363 million in 3rd quarter

Delta, the world's second-largest airline, says it posted a profit in the third quarter as revenue from carrying both passengers and cargo rose from a year earlier.

The Atlanta company expects its profit streak to continue in the fourth quarter, which includes the holiday travel season.

Delta Air Lines Inc. said Wednesday it had net income of US$363 million, or 43 cents per share, for the quarter. That compares with a year-earlier loss of US$161 million, or 19 cents a share. Not counting one-time items, it recorded an adjusted profit of US$929 million, or US$1.10 a share.

Revenue rose 18 percent to US$8.95 billion.
