ry tickets ran close to NT$10 billion in the first eight months of the year, according to statistics compiled by Taiwan Lottery Co., Ltd., operator of the lottery. The statistics showed that 50 percent of a total of NT$9.835 billion in earnings will be allocated to local county and city governments to finance public welfare and charity activities, 45 percent to the central government to support is national annuity system, and 5 percent as national health insurance reserves.
In August alone, the lottery operating profits came to NT$1.25 billion, with NT$626 million to be distributed to local governments, NT$564 million to central government and NT$62.66 million to the national health insurance system.
Of local governments, the Taipei County Government won the largest portion of the allocated earnings, at NT$98.35 million, and Taipei City Government came second with NT$84.05 million.
In related news, the Taipei National Tax Administration under the Ministry of Finance, winners of prizes from the lottery tickets or uniform invoices won’t have to incorporate such income into their consolidated personal incomes when filing income tax statements.
Taxation officials said that a 20 percent tax will be imposed if the above-mentioned prizes are valued at over NT$2,000. And therefore, such income won’t be taxed again no matter whether they are incorporated into the consolidated personal incomes or not.
