President Chain plans 200 supermarkets in Shandong

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan food giant President Chain Store Corp said yesterday it is planning to open

200 supermarkets in the northern Chinese province of Shandong by 2010.

Shandong PCSC Ginza Supermarket, of which President Chain Store owns 55 percent, also aims to attain sales of 1.5 billion yuan (US$199 million) in 2010, against the 600 million yuan targeted for 2007, a company official said.

Established in July 2005, the joint venture currently has 52 supermarket outlets in Shandong.

It made a profit of 7 million yuan on sales of 430 million yuan in 2006 while the profit target for 2007 is 20 million yuan, the official said.

In Taiwan, President Chain Store operates the 7-Eleven convenient stores, Starbucks and Mister Donut franchises.
