Macronix may consider semiconductor factory

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Macronix International Co., which makes chips for customers including Nintendo Co

., said it's considering building a new semiconductor factory.

Chairman Wu Miin-Chyou, who spoke to reporters in Taipei yesterday, declined to elaborate on details such as the timing or the investment amount.

The Hsinchu, Taiwan-based company said in May it's in talks with Qimonda AG to jointly develop flash memory chips.
