Edge-Core showcases metro Ethernet solution

Edge-Core, a leading networking solutions provider, recently unveiled its next-generation metro Ethernet solution at the COMPUTEX TAIPEI currently being held at Taipei World Trade Center.

The solution is part of Edge-Core’s full range of WiMAX products and metro access switches to support real-time triple play scenarios.

The Edge-Core solution shown in a live metro Ethernet network demo includes:

* Metro access switches/CPE with VDSL2/WDM/copper interfaces, compliant with IEEE802.1ah and IEEE802.1ad.

* IEEE802.16d-compliant WiMAX solution, made up of a macro base station and outdoor and indoor units.

* IEEE802.16e-compliant WiMAX base station and Maximum Ratio Combining (MRC) technology utilizing indoor CPE, IAD and PCMCIA card with dual receiver antennas to enhance signal receiving quality, for mobile users.

Edge-Core’s WiMAX solution features superior distance connectivity of up to 30km, bolstered by excellent building penetration and transmission speed.

The WiMAX CPE was the first in Taiwan to participate in the WiMAX PlugFest to conduct interoperability tests with major WiMAX base station providers in the market. The device was also the first to receive “Taipei Summit Interoperability Certification of M-Taiwan” in 2007.

Compared with traditional networking architecture, Edge-Core’s next-generation MAN solution offers high-capacity hardware design to support 100M~1G for subscriber access and 10G XFP for uplink. Also by providing S/W and H/W redundancy and hot-swappable components, the solution achieves high scalability, supported by comprehensive security and QoS features.

“The emerging technology of data, voice and video drives communication application developments and fuels demand of carrier-grade and cost effective Metro Ethernet deployment. Edge-Core is proud to say that we offer just what they want,” said June Chao, managing director of Edge-Core. “A good evidence is that during the past months, more than 60 percent of Edge-Core’s revenue in Russia was contributed from metro access products of Telco market and the number is expected to grow in the year 2007.”

She continued: “In those developed countries such as in Northern and Western Europe, Edge-Core provides versatile interfaces metro access switches to fit existing network environment. For those developing countries such as Russia, Latin America and the Middle East, a good combination of WiMAX and metro access switches enable ISPs to build cost-effective and reliable MAN networks for triple play services.”
