SINGAPORE, AFP
Thursday, March 15, 2007

Singapore Airlines' regional wing SilkAir will start flying to Kaohsiung, the second largest city in

Taiwan, in May, a statement said Wednesday.

SilkAir will fly four times a week from the city-state to Kaohsiung, starting May 25 with an Airbus A319 aircraft, the carrier said.

"It's a reinvigorated market and we're thrilled to serve the international gateway of southern Taiwan," said David Lim, SilkAir's vice president commercial.

"Beyond business and cargo traffic, the maturing tourist market offers tremendous opportunities for both inbound and outbound leisure travel."

Kaohsiung, the chief port of Taiwan, is famous for its hot springs, historic temples and bustling night markets.

SilkAir is a full-service regional carrier with an extensive network, flying from Singapore to popular holiday destinations like Phuket, Kunming, Langkawi and Danang.
