New bike gear designed

“The S50 hub is easy to maintain and is hard to break, and it hard to be copied by other manufacturers,” remarked Tsai Ming-chih, sales representative for SRSA.

The gear ratio is 225 percent, transmission efficiency over 96 percent, a 2.2 kg brake system, a 110 part transmission assembly. The XRD-5 alloy inter gear hub works with the drum brake, while the bike rider can use the handle bar shifters to control the power transmission from the hub to the bike, it is the actual different power transmission paths of the gears that determine the bike’s speed.

“Since the hub space is limited, and being a complex mechanism, the gears are hard to manufacture. Therefore there are only a few players in our market. SRSA was established in 1972, and by the efforts of the company’s president, Hsu with the support of his staff, they have created one of the three biggest bicycle drive train manufacturers in the world. It is through our own unique innovative techniques and determination in developing our R&D department that we are able to achieve and apply for so many product patents,” said Tsai.

With expanding European markets, it was through a year 2000 merger of Sturmey-Archer, the famous England internal gear hub manufacturer that SRSA became one of the main internal gear hub manufacturers in the world and the only one currently in Taiwan. Since the internal gear hub market is larger in the European market, SRSA has had expanding sales year after year.

Tsai stressed, “Innovation, quality, and management is the key to our future, therefore as many other (Taiwanese) manufacturers continually move to China because of lower competitive costs, we still believe that our products are more creative and different which need to be created in our country. We will do our best to live up to our name as the kingdom of the bicycle industry in Taiwan.”

SRSA has been awarded the Taiwan Symbol of Excellence almost yearly from 1996 to 2001, for various products, including a handy shift, bicycle internal gear, M30 series, front and rear derailleur, as well as a shifter for internal gear hubs.
