Taiwan photovoltaic industry production to hit NT$100 bil.Speaking at the opening of the 2008 Taiwan International Photovoltaic Forum and Exhibition being held at the Taiwan World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1,Shih said that the domestic photovoltaic industry has been growing at a rapid pace of over 35 percent per year since 1998. Claiming that the domestic photovoltaic industry’s production value could quadruple by 2015, Shih said that Taiwan will likely become an important global base for photovoltaic production by that time. Currently in the photovoltaic industry, Taiwan is most competitive in the area of solar cell production, enjoying a 7 percent share of the global market in 2006 and a 12.7 percent share last year, according to Shih. Shih said the government has been actively assisting in the development of Taiwan’s photovoltaic industry through tax incentives, loans, assistance in the establishment of facilities, and other measures. He added that a renewable energy development bill, which has already been sent to the Legislative Yuan, will also help in this respect. Shih said that based on Taiwan’s successful experience in developing its semiconductor and flat panel display industries, he is confident that the country will also become an important international player in the emerging photovoltaic industry in the years to come. | |||||||||||||
