Microsoft Taiwan opens certification programs

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Microsoft Taiwan Corp. has opened certification programs on its own project management tool, aiming to issue certifications to 500 people within one year, an executive of Microsoft Taiwan said yesterday.

Alec Cooper, Microsoft Taiwan's general manager of business marketing operations, said the company cooperated with Taiwan's Advanced Business Consulting Inc. in providing the certification programs on Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist Project 2007 (MCTS Project 2007).

The MCTS-Project 2007 is a specially designed tool to help project managers apply best practices and methodologies to result in better project outcomes and optimal resource management, Cooper said.

According to Chang Li yeh, Microsoft Taiwan's product marketing manager, the number of Taiwanese who received project management professional certification from the American Project Management Institute last year increased by 49 percent from the year-earlier level.

However, these project managers might have the required methodologies, but in practice, they do not have good tools, so the MCTS-Project 2007 is aimed at meeting their needs, Chang said.
