60,000 grads to search for jobs online

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Approximately 60,000 students who are set to graduate this summer are already looking for jobs by having their resumes posted with online employment broker 104 Job Bank, the company said yesterday.

The number marks an increase of 30 percent compared with the same time last year and reached its highest level in the last three years, the company said.

The numbers reflect the belief, proven in 2007, that those getting early starts have better chances at landing jobs. Last year, 80.2 percent of graduates who obtained employment within three months of graduation began their job search before graduation, according to a survey conducted by 104 Job Bank among member job seekers.

This year, 12,000 prospective graduates are looking for jobs in the category of administration and general affairs, while only around 2,000 openings are available, the company said.

Of the 110,000 vacancies open to fresh graduates that are currently posted with the job bank, 24.6 percent are in sales, 13.1 percent in finance, 12.2 percent in operations and technical support, 10.4 percent in customer service and 8.3 percent in engineering research and development.

Meanwhile, there are approximately 6,000 openings for management trainees, with 24.4 percent in the wholesale and retail sectors, 19.6 percent in the financial and insurance industries, and 18.9 percent in the service industry, the company said.
