Beef Noodle Festival aims for cross-strait popularity

TAIPEI -- Representatives of the 2014 Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival organized by the Taipei City government made their last China stop in Shanghai Wednesday to promote the 10th anniversary of the annual festival.

The representatives had previously visited Tianjin, Macau and Hong Kong as part of this year's promotion in China of the Taipei favorite.

Three winning chefs from previous festivals demonstrated their winning creations in Shanghai and shared their experience. Chen Yung-yu, a three-time winner, said that there are always so many new facets of beef noodles, and so many different flavors, that great creativity is required to do well in competition.

The Taipei Beef Noodle Festival began in 2005 as a means of promoting travel to Taipei, as well as the city's specialties, but so great was its popularity that it was renamed the Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival in its second year.
