TAIPEI--Shipments of Taiwan's large TFT-LCD panels will increase in the second half of the year by more than 3 percent compared with the first six months, according to a market research firm.
Taiwan-made TFT LCD panel shipments are expected to reach 134.7 million units in the July-December period and post positive annual growth for the whole year, Digitimes Research said in a note last week.
The second-half figure will represent a 3.8 percent increase from the first half of the year but will be below the average growth in the global panel industry, the firm projected. This is because Taiwanese panel makers are not part of the supply chain for Apple Inc.'s tablets, and LG Display and Samsung Display Corp. of South Korea are expected to launch new products later this year, Digitimes Research added.
It forecast that shipments of large-sized panels from Taiwan will peak in the third quarter of the year, driven by strong demand for LCD TVs, monitors and laptop computers.
With Taiwanese panel makers adjusting their production capacity for small and medium-sized panels, the second-half production capacity for large-sized ones will decrease 0.1 percent from the first half, according to the research firm.
