TAIPEI--Taiwanese computer maker Acer Inc. (宏碁) said Thursday it has teamed up with two leading sales agents in Taiwan to market its eight major product lines.
Acer's partnership with Synnex Technology International Corp. and Weblink International Inc., which started this month, covers the domestic distribution of Acer-branded laptops, desktop computers, 2-in-1 hybrid devices, tablet PCs, smartphones, monitors, projectors and servers.
The cooperation will help Acer expand its sales network to a total of about 5,000 distributors in Taiwan and thus reach millions more domestic consumers and over 1 million local businesses, said Towny Huang (黃鐘鋒), president of the company's Taiwan operations.
“It's natural to take a more aggressive approach in our distribution strategy amid a gradually maturing product and market development,” Huang told reporters during the announcement of the partnerships.
Acer had been selling only commercial products through two sales agents and was negotiating with distributors on the sale of consumer products, according to the executive.
The expanded sales network, along with expected strong demand later this year, could boost Acer's overall sales value in Taiwan by 40 percent sequentially in the third quarter, which would represent a 10 percent year-on-year growth, Huang said.
The struggling PC maker's new sales strategy follows a series of restructuring plans introduced last November to break into the cloud computing business and seek new growth momentum.
One of Acer's latest organizational changes is the establishment of a new regional operation that will take effect Aug. 1, encompassing China, Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific.
