LPGA Taiwan Championship '14 to host 20 local golfers in October

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Taiwan Championship 2014 will be held between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, and a record 20 players from Taiwan will participate in the event.

Fubon Financial Holding Co. (富邦金控) becomes this year's event sponsor, and US$2 million will be awarded to the winner. The LPGA Taiwan Championship is the highest-standard golf competition in Taiwan.

Fubon Financial Chairman Tsai Ming-chung (蔡明忠) said that he hopes to improve Taiwan's golf environment through holding large-scale international contests, which may also hone local golfers' skills and make them more experienced.

LPGA will be held in Miramar Golf Country Club, and international players will be staying in The Ambassador Hotel. The LPGA in Taiwan has produced many talented players in the past 3 years, including Yani Tseng (曾雅妮), the champion of the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2011.

"While the FIFA World Cup is attracting all the attention around the world, I'm looking forward to Taiwan golfers also shining in the Olympics Games in the future, as we have players who are ranked among the top in the world," said Vincent Siew(蕭萬長), Former Vice President of Taiwan.
