TAITRA invites 31 firms from Turkey and Russia

TAIPEI --- The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) has invited 31 potential buyers from Turkey and Russia to Taiwan to participate in 255 trade meetings with 191 Taiwanese suppliers on Wednesday, the trade promotion body said Monday.

Taiwan's exports to Europe have grown steadily this year as the European debt crisis has eased, rising 7 percent in the first five months from a year earlier to US$11.94 billion, and TAITRA is hoping to tap into the potential of the two emerging European markets.

The most prominent of the nine buyers from Russia coming to Taiwan is medical equipment vendor Medtekhnika, which has annual sales of US$23 million. It will be looking to source medical devices, the trade body said.

Of the 22 buyers from Turkey, the biggest will be food and bakery equipment company Saray Holding, which has annual sales of US$290 million, and compressor vendor Dalgakiran, which has annual sales of US$52 million, according to the trade body.

Both are interested in sourcing machines related to their lines of business, TAITRA said.

Taiwan's exports to Turkey in the January-May period grew 7.67 percent year-on-year to US$701 million while those to Russia fell 3.6 percent from a year earlier to US$567 million due to sluggish demand.

TAITRA is hopeful Wednesday's event will generate new momentum for exports to the two promising markets.
