TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Following the release of the Audi A8 and A8 L luxury sedan, the German carmaker on Monday unveiled the high performance S8 variant, representing the pinnacle of opulence and raw horsepower.
The sporty design of the Audi S8 variant adds brawn to the luxurious presentation of the A8 series, with its racing-inspired cockpit and dash arrangement, and numerous aerodynamic modifications. The all-new Audi S8 features the signature single-frame chassis, with spoilers placed at the vehicle's front and sides for optimal aerodynamic performance.
The Audi S8 is equipped with a late-generation 4.0-liter 8-valve TFSI engine that combines direct injection with forced induction supercharging that unleashes unparalleled power output with unmatched fuel efficiency. With 520 horsepower of and torque of 66.3 kgm under the precision control of Audi's high-precision tiptronic manumatic transmission system, the S8 is capable of going from 0 to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds.
Most notably, the S8 utilizes the revolutionary cylinder on demand (COD) system to achieve unparalleled fuel efficiency. The COD system automatically sets the vehicle in 4-valve mode to conserve fuel when driving under congested conditions at low speed, where the engine's rpm resides at the lower 960 to 3500 range. Full 8-valve modes kicks in when speed is needed in less congested road conditions. Onboard amenities include a high-powered 1,400-watt Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, which is comprised of 19 high-fidelity speakers situated throughout the cabin. The driving experience of the S8 is improved by Audi's dynamic steering system, and the quatro perpetual four-wheel drive.
