Hon Hai reports revenues drop 8.99 percent month-on-month

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Hon Hai Precision Industry (鴻海) yesterday reported May revenues of NT$267.966 billion, down 8.99 percent month-on-month and 10.82 percent year-on-year.

Over the first five months of this year, the company reported revenues of NT$1.445 trillion, gaining 3.15 percent year-on-year. The company's revenues from January to April, however, reached NT$1.177 trillion, growing by a marked 6.97 percent year-on-year. Over the course of 2013, the company's revenues grew by 1.2 percent year-on-year, reaching NT$3.953 trillion and yielding an after-tax net income of NT$106.697 billion, growing by 12.73 percent year-on-year while attaining record-high sales figures and profitability.

Meanwhile, Far Eastone (遠傳) reported May revenues of NT$7.297 billion and accumulated revenues of NT$37.51 billion over the first five months of this year, while yielding an after-tax net income of NT$5.434 billion and earnings of NT$1.67 per share. During May, the company's revenues improved by 19 percent year-on-year, with an earnings-per-share performance over the month rated at NT$0.37 and after-tax net income reaching NT$1.206 billion. The company reported that as of the end of May, the number of subscribers have been growing for the past 49 consecutive months and was tallied at about 7.33 million. For its newly launched 4G network, the company stated that it is prepared to offer stellar mobile services utilizing both the 700MHz and 900MHz bands.

Chunghwa Telecom (中華電) reported May revenues of NT$18.63 billion and earnings of NT$0.44 per share. Over the first five months of this year, the company has accumulated earnings of NT$2.2 per share, up by 6.2 percent year-on-year. The company's May revenues improved by 0.2 percent year-on-year, despite a 0.3-percent increase in operating costs compared to figures recorded one year ago. The company stated that on account of strong growth subscribers, revenues derived from mobile services increased by 26.7 percent in May, with handset sales rising by 5.4 percent. Despite the rising adoption of VoIP applications that has caused an 11.5-percent decline in voice call revenues, the mobile division revenues still saw a 3.1-percent year-on-year gain, said the company.

Chunghwa Telecom stated that as of May the company has achieved 40.3 percent of this year's sales target, while reaching 47 percent and 48 percent of this year's projected after-tax net income and earnings-per-share performance targets, respectively. In addition, internet subscribers have reached 4.501 million as of the end of May, and its multimedia-on-demand (MOD) subscribers were last tallied at 1.276 million.
