TAIPEI -- The operator of Taiwan's major international airport signed a letter of intent Tuesday with the operator of the international airport in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou, as the two work toward building world-class airport cities.
Taoyuan Airport Corp., which runs the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, and Henan Province Airport Group Co., which operates the Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, agreed to establish long-term cooperation in personnel exchanges and experience sharing.
Henan Province Governor Xie Fuzhan attended the signing ceremony at the Taoyuan airport to witness the founding of the “sisterhood” between the two airport companies.
Xinzheng International Airport is one of eight major regional airports that China's Civil Aviation Administration plans to develop into international cargo shipment hubs and domestic aviation centers.
The airport is the driver behind the Zhengzhou Airport City plan, the center of an experimental free economic zone intended to play a leading role in future regional economic development.
There are currently 18 flights between Taoyuan and Zhengzhou each week. Last year, 167,000 travelers flew to Taiwan from the capital city of Henan Province on that route.
