Siemens expands its coveted summer internship program

TAIPEI, Taiwan --Siemens Ltd. Taiwan is expanding its summer internship program this year, inviting 16 students to work in Siemens' various departments including health care, procurement, building technology, mobile, real estate, corporate communications and human resources.
The Siemens Summer Internship Program was inaugurated last year in an effort to attract students who are dedicated to environmental protection, sustainable development and energy conservation.
This year, the 16 interns were selected from nearly 300 applicants from 30 local colleges and universities in Taiwan and overseas. They will receive a stipend of NT$40,000 during their two months of employment at Siemens.
Siemens held the Green Energy Rising Star Showdown at its Taipei office yesterday, where a winner was chosen from the pool of interns for a highly coveted two-week internship opportunity in Siemens' Singapore office.
Four finalists remained from the 16 students who competed in yesterday's event, where Siemens Ltd. Taiwan's President and CEO Erdal Elver and a senior HR consultant from Siemens Pte Ltd. Singapore attended as judges.
During the event, the finalists first provided a 100-second self-introduction in English and then demonstrated their creativity by presenting a self-made short video with a green theme, followed by a Q&A session with judges.
Speaking fluent English while demonstrating great presentation skills, Chen Si-yu (陳思諭), a sophomore from the Department of Journalism at National Chengchi University, won the judges' approval. Chen said that she is looking forward to applying her marketing skills while working at Siemens' Singapore office.
"Foreign language ability, international perspective and cross-cultural adaptability are becoming the metric to identify talent among the world's leading enterprises," Elver said, adding that "we hope that our summer internship program will provide an opportunity for a university student to get to experience the corporate culture and working environment of a multinational enterprise before entering the workplace."
