Foreign investors in TWSE overbuy NT$8.9 bil. last week

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) on Monday announced today that the securities net overbought position of foreign investors was NT$8.9 billion during the week of May 12-16, a 11.62-percent retreat from the previous week.

The overbought position represented the difference between NT$109.21 billion securities bought and NT$100.31 billion securities sold.

The securities net oversold position of foreign investors was NT$10.07 billion during the week of May 5-9, representing the difference between NT$94.81 billion securities bought and NT$104.88 billion securities sold.

The accumulated net overbought position by foreign investors during the period year to May 16, 2014 was NT$176.95 billion. This represented the difference between NT$1,988.58 billion securities bought and NT$1.82 trillion securities sold.

The market capitalization of the shareholdings of foreign investors was NT$9.27 trillion as of May 16, or 36.67 percent of total market capitalization. This is higher (by NT$70.85 billion) than a week ago.

The three securities that reported the highest overbought positions (per thousand shares) by foreign investors during the week of May 12-16 were Innolux Corporation (群創光電) at 67,073, Compal Electronics (仁寶電腦) at 56,928 and E.SUN Financial Holding Co. (玉山金控) at 46,668.

The three securities that reported the highest oversold positions (per thousand shares) by foreign investors during the week of May 12-16 were Inotera Memories (華亞科技) at 27,431, China Petrochemical Development Corp. (中國石化) at 27,356, and Taiwan Cement Corp. (台灣水泥) at 24,013.

Q1 Overall Profits Grow By 8.97%

Meanwhile, Taiwan-listed companies, excluding financial holdings firms, reported an overall 8.97-percent average increase in pre-tax profits for the first quarter of 2014 thanks to good results in the semiconductor and optoelectronic sectors, the Central News Agency (CNA) reported, citing TWSE.
