TAIPEI, Taiwan -- DBS Treasures and Asian Food Channel (AFC) last week presented this year's Underground Supperclub in Kaohsiung, showing AFC's most popular celebrity chef Martin Yan (甄文達).
Underground supperclubs have been popular in the West, but only recently gained traction in Asia. This year's Underground Supperclub kicked off its Asian tour last November in Jakarta.
DBS Underground Supperclubs are usually are held at private homes or roving premises. Diners sometimes sign up without knowing what will be served and where until the day of the event. According to organizers, the element of mystery and surprise is all part of the secret dining experience. The DBS Underground Supperclub looks to combine this with the opportunity to dine and interact with a famous chef.
Last week in Kaohsiung's Grand Hi-Lai Hotel, DBS Treasures presented Chef Martin Yan, inviting the bank's private clients to see how Yan redefines Chinese cuisine at the event. A DBS ranking official said that the bank's private clients unanimously speak and think highly of this kind of exclusive event where they get to dine, mingle and exchange conversation with the chefs and like-minded food lovers about food and culinary experiences.
According to DBS, not only is Chef Martin Yan one of AFC's most popular celebrity chefs, he also stars in two of his own AFC Original Production. In “True Passion,” Martin Yan features Chef Yan pairing his signature dishes with his favorite Jacob's Creek wines, while “Back To Basics” shows him venturing deep into the palm oil plantations of Malaysia and braving the searing heat to discover the truth behind palm oil.
