Taiwan Realty starts service for prospective home buyer

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- More than 40 percent of homeowners in Taiwan are planning to purchase new homes within a year, according to a recently released report, whereas roughly 35 percent want to purchase new homes because they are dissatisfied with the environment of their current homes.

Taiwan Realty (台灣房屋) said that a lot of first-time homebuyers are often confronted with the problem of not being able to afford the homes they like and not liking the homes they can afford.

Traditional search engines only provide consumers with basic information on "location," "price," "layout" and "size," Taiwan Realty said, adding that search engines are unable to help consumers find housing units with the right "atmosphere."

Consumers are often unable to accurately assess the environment in which the property is located, and they are often only able to come to a decision based on superficial information, the firm said, adding that people often end up with homes they don't actually like.

In light of this problem, Taiwan Realty came up with the concept of helping consumers find homes based on their "lifestyles," using a large amount of data to compile 10 indexes to describe the environment within a 1-kilometer radius of the properties in question.

The ten indexes are "food and beverage," "education," "medical resources," "shopping," "leisure," "transportation," "elderly," "hipster," "fashion" and "parent."

By logging on to Taiwan Realty's website (, consumers can see a detailed evaluation of homes and the environment they're in with scores given for each of the 10 indexes.

For example, the "food and beverage" index not only comes with a score but also provides a pie chart showing the percentage of different types of restaurants near the housing unit.

Furthermore, the Taiwan Realty website also provides information on weather, humidity, seismic activity, air quality and radiation around the housing unit.
