Taiwan's manufacturing improves in Dec.: think tank

TAIPEI--There were signs of improvement in Taiwan's manufacturing sector in December last year, with a set of indicators released Tuesday by a local economic think tank showing a change from a state of slowdown to stability.

The composite index of Taiwan's manufacturing sector flashed a green light last month, signaling stability, up from eight straight months of slowdown as indicated by a yellow-blue indicator, according to the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research.

Citing data showing improvements in export orders and output by local manufacturers, the think tank said the index for December increased to 13.19 points from 11.21 the previous month, the highest level since January last year.
