CHT to partner with Inventec to develop cloud data center market

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Under the government-supported industrialization program, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and Inventec recently reached a partnership deal to actively develop the domestic cloud data center market in order to boost the market share of local equipment vendors.

CHT (中華電信) recently provided its NT$5 million turnkey solution for cloud data centers powered by Virtuoso, CHT's proprietary cloud computing operation system.

As part of the industrialization executed by the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), CHT said it has agreed to work with Inventec to expand the adoption of Virtuoso Appliance, a new generation of cloud-rack solutions by government agencies, schools and universities.

Multinational telecommunications companies such as Cisco and Nortel Data have dominated Taiwan's domestic data center solution market, a reason why IDB launched the abovementioned industrialization program to boost the market share of homegrown equipments vendors and solution providers in Taiwan.

CHT said it has so far collaborated with Asustek (華碩電腦) and Wiwynn Technology (緯穎科技) on the popularization of its Virtuoso Appliance.

In May 2013, Asustek Computer signed a memorandum of understanding with CHT, with the goal of delivering cloud-based healthcare to Palau. The new platform, a state-of-the-art electronic patient records system, will help healthcare facilities in Palau stay connected to one another in the cloud and pool patient records for on-demand access.

CHT is one of the major companies behind the founding of Taiwan's Cloud Computing Consortium, an organization consisting of over 50 corporate members mandated to promote the adoption of cloud-based information and communication technologies (ICT) and the development of a locally based supply chain.
