Largan Nov. revenue hits NT$3.182 bil.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Largan Precision Co. (大立光電) on Thursday posted consolidated revenues of NT$3.182 billion, up 6 percent year-on-year and representing the company's biggest monthly return so far this year.

Largan Precision is a major handset camera optical lens supplier of Apple iPhones and iPads. The company yesterday reported that sales grew for an 11th consecutive month last month to NT3.182 billion, up 6 percent year-on-year and 9 percent month-on-month.

With increased orders for the newly launched iPhone 5s and 5c, Largan's November sales hit a new monthly high this year, a dealer told local media. The traditional year-end shopping boom in China also helped boost Largan's bottom line in November, the analyst added.

Despite the new monthly record high, Largan's November results actually failed to meet market expectations.

As Apple's historical sales figures show, demand for new iPhones or iPads usually remains robust for two or three months after they are launched. On the basis of previous data, market analysts expected Largan to post 15-percent monthly growth in November.

Intensifying competition between camera lens makers may put pressure on Largan and cause the company to lose market share, dealers said.

At the same time, Taiwan's second-largest semiconductor packaging and testing house, Siliconware Precision Industries Co., Ltd (SPIL, 矽品), yesterday registered consolidated revenues of NT$6.199 billion for November, representing a 5.4-percent sequential decline from October. On a year-on-year basis, sales revenues for Nov. increased 12.2 percent.

Shares of Largan Precision yesterday rose 0.47 percent to close at NT$1,080, while SPIL slipped 0.57 percent to end at NT$35.05.

Memory-IC backend service firms may cut back their capital expenditure budgets for 2014 due to low order visibility from DRAM clients, according to market observers.
