Man commits suicide by jumping from K Mall

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A man committed suicide yesterday by jumping from the 25th floor of the K Mall Shopping Center in Taipei.
The K Mall building, also known as the Song-kang Shopping Square, is situated across from Taipei Main Station consists of six floors of retail stores, from B1 to the fifth floor. The rest of the 25-story building is rented as office space and to companies including cram schools and hostels.
According to the witnesses, the man, whose named has not been released, leapt from the top floor at around 6 p.m. and fell into the awning of the eighth floor. The impact reportedly shattered the man's body; body parts, brain matter and shoes were discovered on the sidewalk.
The police closed off the area, which had been packed with panicking people, as they retrieved the man's remains from the awning. An investigation into the man's motives will be carried out, the police at the scene said.
