TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei City, launched an online vote for Taiwan's second most popular snack on April 17, said Commissioner Chao Hsin-ping (趙心屏), with participants going into the draw to win an iPad mini.
The vote has been designed as a warm-up activity for the upcoming 2013 Taipei Pineapple Cake Festival, said Chao. Pineapple cakes were voted Taipei's most popular snack.
Ever since the event's debut in 2006, the Pineapple Cake Festival has boosted the name of the pastry among foreign visitors, making it one of the most popular items for tourists.
With rocketing pineapple cake sales, the tourism department is looking to bring more spark into the city's traditional pastry market. It is planning to use the new campaign to boost sales for local confectionaries.
The vote for Taipei's No. 2 Most Recommended Snack can be accessed via the event's official Facebook page from April 17 through to May 17.
The six most popular delicacies competing for the title are the green bean cake, banana cake, dried longan cake, pine nut cake, nougat and Zhuang Yuang cake.
Chao added that the results of the vote will be published on June 14, noting that voters will have the chance of winning an iPad mini or bakery gift coupons.
