Taipei aims to work with ECCT, solicit investment

In the coming five to 10 years, Taipei plans to finish 10 major projects in the city, which are expected to attract investment worth NT$370 billion, Hau said at the chamber's annual round-table luncheon.

“There are lots of investment and business opportunities here,” he said, adding that the completion of the projects will make Taipei more diverse and dynamic.

The projects, which are expected to create 57,000 jobs, include an upgrading of the Songshan International Airport, two new Mass Rapid Transit lines, a fiberoptic cable project, arts centers, and industrial park featuring cloud computing, according to the city government.

In response, ECCT Chairman Giuseppe Izzo said his chamber welcomes the opportunity to discuss areas in which the ECCT can contribute and cooperate.

“Given its modern transport and communications infrastructure, deep talent pool and good quality of life, Taipei's reputation and global recognition is growing,” he said.

In addition, Izzo promoted the Low Carbon Initiative the ECCT launched last year, seeking local partnerships.

The chamber will work with the city on finding ways to clean up the environment, reduce energy consumption and promote sustainable business practices across a wide range of industries, Izzo said.

It looks forward to the city's future development and contributing to keep the city an attractive place in which to live and invest, he added.
