TAIPEI -- The United Kingdom's experience in helping traditional manufacturers apply low-carbon technology could play a key role in Taiwan's bid to develop a low-carbon economy, Taiwanese and foreign officials agreed yesterday.
Providing adequate incentives for traditional industries to adopt green technology has become a pressing issue for Taiwan due to its dependence on fossil fuels, and other countries such as the UK may offer some ideas on what direction to take, a local official said.
“We are studying how other countries tackle the greenhouse gas problem from both a technology and policy perspective,” said Chen Liang-tung, deputy director of the Sustainable Development Division at the Industrial Development Bureau.
