Updated Thursday, September 9, 2010 11:06 pm TWN, The China Post news staff Home sales increase in 'Ghost Month': H&BH&B Business Group yesterday released a survey comparing home sales during Ghost Month to the month before it for three years in a row. This year, sales in the Ghost Month increased by 0.4 percent from the previous month, and the margin for 2008 was even bigger, at 3.9 percent. Last year, however, sales during the Ghost Month dipped from the previous month due to Typhoon Morakot, H&B said. Ghost Month refers to the seventh month of the Lunar Calendar, or from Aug. 10 to Sept. 7 this year. The period bodes bad luck for the Chinese people, who refrain from doing auspicious things, such as buying new cars or new houses, during this time. However, Hsu Chia-hsin, researcher with H&B, pointed out the market is seeing an increasing number of younger buyers, who are less superstitious. Many of them, she said, enter the market during the Ghost Month to get better prices. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
