NT$100 bil. of 364-day CDs to be issued by central bank

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will issue NT$100 billion worth of 364-day certificates of deposit in August to absorb excessive liquity in the market, it said yesterday.

This will be the fifth time this year the central bank will issue long-term CDs.

The CDs will be issued on Aug. 9. An auction will be held Aug. 6 to determine the highest bidders.

The auction will only open to banks, credit cooperatives, and bills companies, according to central bank policies, it said.

Issuing CDs is tantamount to raising banks' required reserve ratios, the central bank said.
