Dow extends record run after ending at 14,253.77

NEW YORK--The Dow Jones Industrial Average extended its record-breaking run as U.S. markets rallied for modest gains in opening trade Wednesday.

After setting an all-time closing high Tuesday of 14,253.77, the Dow added another 42.01 points (0.29 percent) in the first five minutes of trade to 14,295.78.

The broader S&P 500 rose 4.33 points (0.28 percent) to 1,544.12, still nearly two percent shy of its Oct. 9, 2007 record,

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 5.21 (0.16 percent) to 3,229.34.
