Vietnam premier: Economy to expand 8.5% this year

SINGAPORE -- Vietnam’s economy may grow 8.5 percent this year as the country implements reforms to attract investment, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said.

“The economy has been doing very well,” Nguyen told business leaders at a conference in Singapore Sunday. “We are now doing our best to improve the investment environment.” The Southeast Asian economy is attracting money from overseas, helped by its accession to the World Trade Organization this year and winning a seat on the United Nations Security Council. The forecast is unchanged from an October estimate.
