Taiwan shares rose Thursday on strong cement issues performance due to demand from China.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan shares rose Thursday on strong cement issues performance due to demand from China.

The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 57.84 points, or 0.6 percent, to 9,697.67.

In Thursday’s trade, cement subindex went up 6.3 percent as foreign investors were buying on rising price due to demands from China.

Taiwan Cement surged the limit-up 7 percent to NT$53.30, Asia Cement also gained 7 percent to NT$56.80, and Chia Hsin Cement climbed 3.6 percent to NT$33.25.
