Updated Saturday, September 15, 2007 0:00 am TWN, AP Nokia to produce new, fast flash memory cardThe technology, expected to be ready in 2009, will use a new specification, dubbed Universal Flash Storage, or UFS, which “reflects the industry’s need for a universal memory solution that removes the need for adaptors to accommodate different removable memory card sizes,” Nokia said. “Widespread demand for higher densities and higher performance, plus the surging popularity of multimedia content, is accelerating the need for advanced memory solutions as removable card or embedded formats,” the Finnish company said. The removable memory card would be used in handsets, digital cameras and other consumer electronic devices, and could cut the current three-minute access time for a 90-minute movie to a few seconds, Nokia said. Others companies involved in the project include Micron Technology Inc., Spansion, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
