President Chen honors Gold Excellence award winners
Ping Wei, TAIPEI, Taiwan, Special to The China PostWinners of the Gold and Silver National Award of Excellence were awarded yesterday at the 12th annual Celebration of Excellence award ceremony hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). President Chen Shui-bian awarded the following eight companies with the Gold National Award: BenQ, Giant, Giga-byte, Hiwin, Microtek, Delta and Apacer.

The Celebration of Excellence is not only a celebration of Taiwan’s most unique and innovative products, but also highlights Taiwan’s top quality in research, development, marketing and service, says President Chen. To continue this trend further, Chen hopes awarded industry leaders not only continue to research and development, but also manufacture more products for consumer’s satisfaction.
The Celebration of Excellence award ceremony is hosted by Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs Ho Mei-yueh and attended by the who’s who of Taiwan industry.
The entire Symbol of Excellence program is divided into three phrases. The first phase consists of a local panel of distinguished scholars and scientists selecting the Symbol of Excellence winners. From those winners, the same group of judges chooses the next group of finalists. Finally, an international panel comprised of leaders in the design, media, manufacturing and marketing industries chooses gold and silver recipients.
This year, 321 products out of a total of 677 products were chosen as SOE (Symbol of Excellence) Winners. From the 677 SOE recipients, 24 products received the prestigious National Award of Excellence (NAOE).
National Awards of Excellence 2004 - Gold Award Winners are DynaScan Technology Corp.’s 360 degree cylindrical LED display, Microtek International Inc.’s scanner, Giant Manufacturing Co., Ltd’s REVIVE comfort bike, Hiwin Mikrosystem Corp.’s LMC linear servo motor coreless type, Delta Electronics, Inc.’s 160 Hi-Scan display rear projection, Giga-byte Technology Co., Ltd’s notebook computer, BenQ Corporation’s smartphone and Apacer Technology Inc.’s disc steno.
Recipients of the silver award winners were the following companies: ASUSTek Computer, Inc., Proton Electronic Industrial Co., Ltd, Giga-Byte Technology Co., Ltd, Adlink Technology Inc., Aurotek Corporation, TECO Electric & Machinery Co., Ltd, Micro-Star Intl Co., Ltd., ViewSonic International Corporation, BenQ Corporation, E-TEN Information Systems Co., Ltd., Bitatek Co., Ltd. and TZY Shenq Enterprise Co., Ltd.
The Symbol of Excellence logo is recognized worldwide as a mark of quality, innovation and value. To qualify for the SOE, companies and its products are evaluated under five criteria (R&D/lnnovation, Design and Innovation, Quality System, Market and Brand Awareness).
“In previous years you would see some companies strong in one area and relatively weaker in another,” said judge Matthew Asinari, CEO at New York based Shine Brand Consultants. “But this year we are seeing consistency across the board from the Gold winners as they dedicate resources to R&D, design and marketing.”
