The show will for the first time bring the upper-, mid-, and lower-stream businesses of the sports, recreation, and leisure industry under one roof, TAITRA says, adding the show will stress the themes of health, happiness, beauty, family, and freedom. There will be eight theme halls in the show, namely “Health Tourism,” “Cycling Fun,” “Sports & Recreation,” “Electronic Entertainment,” “Tourism Factories,” “Counties and Cities,” “Business Travel,” and “Mountain Museums.” A total of 160 exhibitors are taking part in the show using 533 booths, with TAITRA expecting over 100,000 visitors, it says. The show is taking place at a time when Taiwan has developed an advanced sports, recreation and leisure industry. Companies making such sporting goods as golf clubs, bicycles and sports shoes have become internationally renowned. Many of these companies began as original equipment manufacturers for European and American businesses but have evolved into name brands that are recognized throughout the world. Statistics shows each year the sporting goods industry creates NT$50 billion worth of business for Taiwan. Meanwhile, a recent study by MasterCard shows Taiwan has some 220,000 families with annual income exceeding NT$2.5 million, and each of these families spends NT$410,000 to NT$1.28 million each year on sports or leisure activities, indicating recreation and leisure have become a significant part of the lives of many Taiwanese people.
