Google.com back again in China

Google Inc.’s international Web site is available in China after authorities appeared to block the site around the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, a journalism advocacy group said.

Google.com is available in Beijing and Shanghai after it appeared to be blocked earlier this week, Paris-based Reporters Without Borders said Friday in a statement.

Google, the most-used Internet search engine, in January released Google.cn, which excludes information censored by the Chinese government and wasn’t blocked by authorities, Reporters Without Borders said. Google founder Sergey Brin this week said the company compromised its principles to censor the site in China to provide a better service to Web users in the country.

“We have heard no further reports from users in China of problems accessing Google.com,” Google spokeswoman Debbie Frost said Friday in an e-mailed statement.
