SINGAPORE -- A Singaporean engineer who beat his Filipina maid with a rolling pin has been jailed fo

r three weeks, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. A court official confirmed the sentence but could provide no further details. The Straits Times said Xing Likun, 36, had earlier pleaded guilty to hitting his maid, Irene Israel Miguel, 31.

The abuse took place in Xing's flat in July last year when he ordered her to face a wall in the kitchen after she angered him, the newspaper reported. Xing hit her on the calf and on the back with a wooden rolling pin before she fell, begging him to stop, the report said, adding the incident began when Miguel gave the man's child a yoghurt drink.
