Nepal’s embattled king to leave his palace: reports

KATHMANDU -- Nepal’s embattled king is expected to quit his Kathmandu palace soon, reports said Thursday, just days before the Himalayan nation’s monarchy is due to be abolished. King Gyanendra was likely to move to Nagarjun, a palace on the outskirts of the city, before he loses his status and becomes a common citizen, newspapers said.

He has been ordered to leave the city-centre Narayanhiti palace before the first meeting of the constitution-writing assembly on May 28, when it is set to formally end the monarchy, turning the impoverished nation into a republic.
