Top U.N. official in Myanmar made to leave

YANGON -- The top U.N. official in military-run Myanmar is to leave the country this week after the junta refused to renew his mandate, a U.N. source told AFP. U.N. country chief Charles Petrie “has to leave the country on Tuesday,” the source told AFP late Saturday, adding Dan Baker is currently the world body’s acting resident coordinator in Myanmar. The source declined to give further details, while Petrie could not be reached for comment Sunday.
