2 girls found dead after Malaysia bridge collapse

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- An official says police have found the bodies of two schoolgirls who fell into a river when the bridge they were walking on collapsed in northern Malaysia earlier this week.

A police official in Kampar town in Perak state says one body was fished out of the river Thursday, while the other was found late Wednesday. Another girl was found dead in the river the day after the accident on Monday.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to make public statements.

At least 20 students on a camping trip were walking on the bridge across the Kampar River when it collapsed, but most managed to hold onto it until they were rescued. Authorities are investigating the collapse.
