U.S. apologizes for announcing S. Korea visit

WASHINGTON -- The United States has made “a little bit of an apology” to South Korea for prematurely announcing that U.S. President George W. Bush would visit Seoul Aug. 5-6, the White House said Wednesday. “There was a little bit of an apology from the United States, but I think that it’s pretty minor. We’re working on the dates, and as soon as we have them set, we’ll let people know,” said spokeswoman Dana Perino.

Perino said Tuesday’s announcement by U.S. National Security Council senior director for Asian affairs Dennis Wilder that Bush would stop in Seoul Aug. 5-6 on his way to the Beijing Olympics was “premature, but not inaccurate.”
