Two more North Korean defectors sail to South

SEOUL -- Two members of a North Korean family have defected to South Korea by boat in the sixth such case this month, officials said Thursday.

Reasons for the growing number of fugitives, reported by Yonhap news agency, were not given. But the communist North is facing growing food shortages.

“Two North Koreans from one family defected to the South through the East Sea (Sea of Japan) early on Wednesday, using a small boat,” a spokeswoman for the National Intelligence Service told AFP.

“They have been under questioning by a joint team of government investigators,” she said without elaborating.
