Avian flu in Japan

Health officials gather to investigate a chicken farm in Aomori city, Aomori prefecture, northern Japan, Tuesday, Nov. 29, after a highly contagious avian flu strain in poultry was detected. Japanese health authorities confirmed Tuesday the highly virulent H5 strain was detected in poultry in two prefectures, Aomori and Niigata, with culling of hundreds of thousands of birds starting at the affected farms.
