Japan creating a fuel-cell powered undersea vehicle

TOKYO--Japan's defense ministry on Friday said it was developing a fuel-cell powered “unmanned underwater vehicle” but disputed a report that it was working with Washington on a submarine using the environmentally friendly technology.

The report in the top-selling Yomiuri Shimbun, citing unnamed ministry officials, said the unmanned, 10-meter (33-feet) long sub could run for a month under the sea on a single charge before returning to home base.
