Japanese House of Representatives lawmaker Takeshi Tokuda submitted his resignation as a Diet member on Monday.
The resignation was submitted to lower house Speaker Bunmei Ibuki through a secretary.
Tokuda left the ruling Liberal Democratic Party last November after some of his relatives were arrested and indicted for alleged illegal electioneering involving the Tokushukai hospital group, his power base.
He submitted his resignation apparently because his seat in the lower house is now almost certain to be rescinded under guilt-by-association rules if any of his arrested relatives are convicted of violating the Public Offices Election Law.
