Bo wife confesses to killing businessman: Japan news report

The Asahi Shimbun daily reported Friday that Heywood, 41, was allegedly killed with a cyanide-laced drink prepared on orders of Gu Kailai, to prevent him revealing secret financial dealings.

Gu was arrested as a suspect in Heywood's murder case in April.

The wife of former Chongqing Communist Party boss Bo — who was deposed earlier this year — Gu had demanded a greater share of profits from a secret multimillion-dollar deal, the newspaper wrote, citing communist party sources with knowledge of the investigation.

Gu reportedly knew that her finances were being investigated by Beijing. Whether Bo, 62, was aware of his wife's deeds, was also under investigation, the paper's sources said.

A secret interim report by the General Office of the Communist Party Central Committee, which reports to President Hu Jintao, included plans to indict Gu, 53, who is being held in a detention facility in northern China, the paper added.

Meanwhile, Cambodia announced Friday that a French architect linked to the case would be held in the country, and not immediately be extradited to China or set free.

The architect, Patrick Henri Devillers, has been named in The New York Times as a former business partner of Gu.

Under an extradition agreement with Cambodia, China has 60 days to provide legal documents to support any extradition request.
