Japan looks at death row reform: minister

TOKYO -- Japan is considering announcing the names of executed inmates, reforming its controversial policy of releasing only minimum information on the death penalty, a minister said Friday. Asked about a report that Japan plans to start identifying executed inmates, Justice Minister Kunio Hatoyama, a firm supporter of capital punishment, said: “It is one of the big topics at our study group on the death penalty.” “We are now studying the matter very hard,” he told reporters.
